Australia stands alone in its production of lithium, accounting for a remarkable 52% of the global supply. In contrast to Chile, where lithium is primarily extracted from brines, Australia obtains its lithium from spodumene mines that are sourced from hard rocks. China, ranking as the third-largest producer, maintains a solid position within the lithium supply chain.
China Aviation Lithium Battery Co., Ltd., commonly known as CALB, along with EVE Energy Co., Ltd., Ufine Battery (Guangdong Ufine New Energy Co., Ltd.), and Hunan Shanshan Energy Co., Ltd., are all noteworthy entities in the industry. These companies have been making significant contributions to the development of lithium battery technology, further propelling advancements in the field. January 26, 2024 marks an important date in their journey.
The production process of lithium-ion batteries involves several crucial steps.
Firstly, a separator is positioned meticulously between the anode and cathode electrode sheets. Subsequently, these electrode sheets are either wound meticulously or stacked together in a precise manner. After that, the tabs of the layered electrode sheets undergo a welding process to ensure they are securely connected. Additionally, collectors are welded onto these tabs for efficient power transfer.
The lithium-ion battery cell production process comprises three primary phases: the production of electrodes, the assembly of cells, and the final finishing of the cells. Each of these phases involves several subordinate procedures, ranging from the coating of the anode and cathode to the assembly of diverse components, culminating in the packaging and rigorous testing of the battery cells. This consists of four components, lithium serving as the anode, a metallic oxide cathode, and a dry element.
The transportation of these items necessitates extra vigilance and meticulous handling, as they have the potential to ignite or suffer from short circuits, ultimately culminating in explosive or fiery outcomes. Lithium batteries have found widespread application across a diverse range of electronic gadgets, including smartphones, notebook computers, tablets, cameras, electric tools, portable charging devices, and numerous other devices.
Cathode and anode assembly typically comes after the powder coating process, with all electrodes built first. After being punched and packed into a pouch, the cathode and anode sheets will be folded using a separator into a cell.
The electrodes, typically composed of lead, are securely affixed by welding. Subsequently, the battery undergoes the process of being impregnated with electrolyte, commonly referred to as battery acid, which is a blend of sulphuric acid and water. The protective covering is then securely fitted in place. The conclusive phase involves the charging procedure, which completes the battery's preparation.
